Regional Pollution Action Plan

The project aims at the development of remediation action plans for a number of demonstration projects.

The produced Baseline inventory report updates the assessment of Areasof Pollution Concern, with the latest published data. Based on the Baseline Inventory Report the land based pollution sources are prioritized and the conceptual design for the remediation actions (pre-feasibility studies) is developed and distributed to work towards the feasibility studies and in afinal stage the RPAP,

Land-based wastewatersources

Municipal sewerage systems with more than 100t/yr BOD discharges to the Caspian Sea:
  1. Azerbaijan. Govsan Aeration Station (Baku-Surakhani): 564 t/yr
  2. Russian MUE «Sewage treatment facilities» of Makhachkala-Caspiysk), Makhachkala town: 610 t/yr
  3. Russian MUE «Derbentgorvodokanal», Derbent town: 292 t/yr
  4. Russian MUE «City Sewage Treatment Facilities», Izerbash town: 186 t/yr

Industrial wastewater discharge sources with more than 10 t/yr BOD:

  1. Azerbaijan Organic Synthesis Plant (Sumgait): 402 t/yr
  2. Turkmen OGPP “Dragon Oil”: BOD 120 t/yr into the sea

Sources of pollutionby waste disposal/obsolete OGPP

  1. AZ: Waste dumpsite of former Chlor-Alkali plant Sumgait: Decontamination and secure disposal of mercury containing waste
  2. TM: Soimonov Bay (cleanup of abandoned waste dumps and rehabilitation of the bay)
  3. KZ:Tuhlaya Balka sedimentation tank and infiltration field (industrial wastewater and sludge deposit with ammonium salts, heavy metals, oil products and phenol)
  4. KZ: Tengiz oil field, Маngystau oblast: Oily waste and masuted land
  5. KZ: Karazhambas oil field, Мangystau oblast: Oily waste (16.000 ha, 82,292 m3)
  6. RU-DAG: Administration of Derbent city; Municipal Solid Waste polygon : 1,236,000 ton, 4 ha
  7. TM: Masutted land cleanup at Hazar/Cheleken
  8. AZ: Oily Rocks at Pirallahi, Jilov and Gum Adasi islands: Construction of treatment facilities
  9. RU-DAG: OSA Plant “Dagdiezel” at Kaspiisk: Storage of industrial waste on  the territory of the plant (638 + 141 on territory of the plant 0.05 ha)
  10. RU-DAG: LTD NK Rosneft – Dagneft; Oily waste: 1596 ton at 9 locations; Karabudahkentskiy region, Mahachkala, OGPD
